Biography
Thalia Cook-Hansen is currently a member of the International Opera Studio at Opernhaus Zürich. Known for her warm stage presence and engaging musicality, she brings sincerity and imagination to a wide range of repertoire.
In the upcoming season, she will perform the title role of Alice in P. Valtinoni’s Alice im Wunderland, Yvette and Georgette in Puccini’s La rondine, the Hirt in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Sylviane in Lehár’s Die lustige Witwe, Siren in Handel’s Rinaldo, and The Angel in Peter Eötvös’ Angels in America.
A particular affinity for Mozart has led Thalia to roles including Mademoiselle Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor and Erste Dame in Die Zauberflöte in Toronto, Bastienne in Bastien und Bastienne in Amsterdam, and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro at the historic Estates Theatre in Prague.
Previously based in Amsterdam, Thalia built a vibrant and varied stage profile, as well as earning a Master’s degree in Opera Performance with distinction from the Dutch National Opera Academy. She is also a graduate of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory in Toronto and the Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachusetts.
Her concert and staged performances have taken her across Europe and North America, including engagements in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Czechia, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, New England, and Canada. Thalia continues to establish herself as a versatile and compelling young soprano.
Born in Maine to two musical mothers, Thalia grew up surrounded by diverse musical influences and began performing and writing music from an early age. When not on stage, she can be found in the sea or in the mountains.
